Maria is recognized as a legal and compliance expert at international transactions and operations and as a leader of legal teams working at European jurisdictions and UK & Ireland. She has spent much of her career advising high tech and telecommunications companies on legal, governance and compliance topics. She started her career in private practice as legal attorney in the IP department at the law firm Uria Menendez. She joined Nokia in January 2010 where she serves the company in the position of Head Legal & Compliance. In her current role Maria is responsible to lead a team of legal professionals based in different jurisdictions who are accountable to provide legal and compliance support to the business operations. She acts as advisor to the senior management team on legal, compliance and regulatory matters.
Maria has acted as faculty and has written reports for the General Council of Spanish Advocacy and the Madrid Bar on compliance and the future of the in-house legal profession. She serves Women In Compliance as judge and she has cooperated as faculty in the anti-corruption annual forums.
Prior to Nokia Maria has held various in-house legal roles at General Motors, Hewlett Packard (formerly Electronic Data Systems) and Nortel Networks.
Maria has been widely recognized externally with the Gold Award Best Counsel, Best Legal Team, and she has been selected as Top 50 Women Lawyers Leading Change by InspiraLAw, Top Women Lawyers by InspiralLaw 2020, and Gold Award Best Counsel in Global Compliance 2016.
