After studying law and specializing with a Master in IT Law, Matthias Ebneter worked as an attorney for several years with a focus on Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law. In 2013, he joined SAP in Switzerland as a Legal Counsel and later became Head of Legal and Compliance. In 2019, he joined a new global team focusing on Legal Tech to support Contracting and Legal at SAP and is now a manager of a global, diverse legal technology operations team.
Matthias came out very late to his friends and family out of shame and fear and only had his professional coming out as a gay man in 2012 while still working in a law firm. His coming out was met with mixed reactions. This experience encouraged him to get actively involved in DEI matters. In 2018, he took on the lead for the Pride@SAP chapter in Switzerland, a global employee network promoting LGBTIQ+ topics.
Later, Matthias also became active in supporting wider DEI initiatives at SAP Switzerland and has hosted several workshops. Recently, he successfully positioned SAP Switzerland as an LGBTIQ+ friendly workplace through public campaigns and the Swiss LGBTI label. Through an inter-company network, he started an initiative to promote marriage equality in Switzerland last year. In early 2021, he received the first ever Diversity Award from SAP Switzerland.
